What dissapointing news for Leon & Jan.I remember Fred saying in what I think was the Backyard Collection DVD that he had built it on 4 council flags.Couple that with the fact that the land comprises of cinders from the Earl of Bradford's Est,then the future isn't good.
Raising 10k is an enormous challenge considering other fund raisng seems to have fallen short of the mark.I wonder whether the lottery fund or indeed the Dibnah family would significantly contribute.Failing that, and the fact that its foundations are very unstable, it may be worth considering reducing its height by 15 feet thereby reducing its weight by a third. Also adding steel bands like Fred would have, leaving the scaffolding up and monitoring it over 12 months.I'm no structural engineer, but cost wise,a good volunteer metal fabricator like some of Alan McEwans staff may be the way forward.
