Fred’s engine sells for £240,000
Fred’s 1912 Aveling & Porter LTD Class KND Convertible Traction Engine was put up for sale on Saturday 24th under the instructions of the beneficiaries and executors of Fred’s estate. Betsy Located! Safe and sound
After Roger Dibnah’s recent post abut Betsy, Fred’s Steam Roller, making an appearance next year, it seems that over the last couple of days Betsy has been on the move again for the first time since it was removed out of Fred’s former residence in the winter of 2006 after a spate of burglaries.
It’s now with Jack and Roger Dibnah on the Isle of Man. Congratulation to Jack, Roger and team for finally being able to get her ‘home’.
More Fred engines going under the hammer
It was announced last month that controversially Fred’s traction engine was going to be auctioned off. The auction house has now launched the on-line catalogue for the 24th July 2010 auction has it has these details of the traction engine.

Roger Dibnah just made a post over on the excellent Traction Talk Forum (free registration required), hinting about the reason for the sale of Fred’s traction engine, but on a more up beat note letting us know that Betsy, the green living van and Fred’s Land rover, Landy, will be making a welcome return to the rally scene next year.
