Fred Dibnah statue vandal in court

A VANDAL who defaced the Fred Dibnah statue in Bolton town centre has appeared in court where he apologised.

Peter Gray, aged 39, was caught on CCTV cameras at 6.30am carrying a silver can of spray paint which he used on the 8ft high bronze statue in Oxford Street, Bolton town centre.

A STUDENT prize is being awarded in memory of celebrity steeplejack Fred Dibnah.

FRED Dibnah’s historic home went under the hammer in front of a packed auction house — but failed to attract a single bid.

It was a case of “going, going, but not gone” for the three-bedroom Victorian Gothic gatehouse.
