VANDALS have damaged the new Fred Dibnah statue in Bolton town centre.

Fred Dibnah
If ever there was a man who lived up to the tag ‘eccentric’, it was Fred Dibnah, the flat cap wearing steeplejack who found a place in the nation’s hearts as a most unlikely TV personality.
Fred, who has been celebrated with a statue in his home town of Bolton, first appeared on TV in 1979 as part of the local news, hanging off the side of Bolton Town Hall, fixing the clock. Read the rest of this entry »
EAGLE-EYED web viewers thought they had spotted a glaring error on the new Fred Dibnah statue – his buttons are done up on the wrong side.
Fred’s trademark jacket shows the buttons are on the “ladies” side on the left as opposed to the men’s side on the right.

STEEPLEJACK Fred Dibnah would have felt right at home in the Welsh foundry where his statue is being crafted.
It has turned from clay to bronze as the project to immortalise Bolton’s famous son nears completion.

Fred’s fascination with steam and industrial heritage turned the house and its ground in Radcliffe Road, The Haulgh, into a tribute to Bolton’s past.
