where did fred live when he built a new chimnly on top of his mums houce
As far as I’m aware Fred lived in the same house all his married life. So I think he would have been living at what is now the Fred Dibnah Heritage Centre. Hope that helps. Regards, John.
Not true. The chimney was still there up to about 10 years ago and I’ve no reason to think it isn’t there now. It is not at the Heritage Centre, but on top of a terraced house at Burnden Park. You could see it from St. Peter’s Way but I must admit I haven’t noticed it recently. I’ll look out for it next time I’m passing.
Zena, Fred built this splendid little chimney from Accrington brick on his parent’s house, 8 Alfred Street, Burden Park, Bolton when he was a young lad of 17.

Happy Steamings! Alan.
I understand that Fred was still living at his mothers house just off Manchester Road near Burnden Park foot ball ground when he built the chimney on the property, and can still be seen to this day…..
Thanks for the pointers Robin. I’ve tracked it down on Google Maps. It seems to be 8 Alfred Street, you can just about see the chimney from the front of the house here. Only slightly better view of the chimney here.
thanks
Just as a matter of interest, if you have a look at the google streetview that John has highlighted above, you will see Alan McEwen and Paul Donoghue filming the latest Fred DVD, on the corner of Alfred Street!!!!!!
what if freds last DVD ???

Hello,
I would like to obtain permission to post a few snippets concerning Fred on my chimney centered website,(currently under construction). I am a veteran chimney sweep of some 30+ years, and I am in awe of Fred, his career, and especially his astounding spirit. As a fellow chimney guy and an inveterate tinker, I feel that more of the world beyond England deserves to be exposed to such a rare talent. I just found out about Fred last evening while noodling around on the web. Please let me know who I need to contact to secure the necessary permissions.
Kindest regards,
Ed Williams
