  2. Greetings,

Have just returned from a wonderful two weeks holiday touring your railway museums.
Picked up a copy of your Steam Railway Magazine – outstanding!
Kindly tell me what the circulation of SRM is – # of each issue distributed.
I want to compare it with our Trains Magazine, which I am sure is much less.

    Thank you, Capt. Bill

  4. Hello,
Very pleased to have found this site – worthy of the legend of Fred Dibnah!
As an offshoot of the film festival in Cambridge we are running a free night of films to do with trains outside the Fitzwilliam museum on Sunday 19th September 8 till 10pm called ‘Transported: the art of the train on film’. We’ll have early footage of the Lumiere bros. and lots of other archive prints. (More details at http://www.cambridgefilmfestival.org.uk.) I thought people here might appreciate the homage to the industrial age! Anyone taht would like to come or help spread the word, please do. The more people that know about this and can enjoy it the better! If you need any more information, please contact the programme organiser Rebekah at rebekah.polding@gmail.com.

    Many Thanks and Best Wishes,
    Charlotte

      Hello Juliette,

What a fantastic idea. I was a close friend of the late Fred Dibnah MBE for almost 25 years since I first met him in a mill yard at Worsley in January 1980.I am also the proud author of FRED DIBNAH’S CHIMNEY DROPS–the book I wrote two years ago that chronicles 28 out of the 90 exciting chimney toppling exploites carried out by Fred.
Since June of this year I have presented talks on Fred’s steeplejacking career twice per week at Freds former Bolton home, now known as THE FRED DIBNAH HERITAGE CENTRE. I could provide you with some dramatic images of Fred Dibnah. I suggest you contact me by calling 01535 637153, or email me at lankyboilermaker@btconnect.com Log on to my website: http://www.sledgehammerengineeringpress.co.uk

      Kind Regards,
      Alan McEwen.

  6. Hi Juliette,

Very interesting post indeed, perhaps you would be interested in some of my original artwork depicting Lancashire Millscapes with a particular emphasis on Fred to create a unique focal point on your office walls.

In addition to my artwork, I also offer a bespoke framing service which may also be of interest.

Examples of some of my artwork can be seen on the website, http://www.robinsharples.co.uk or phone me on 07971909594.

    Best Regards
    Robin

    Hello,
After visiting this website, i was hoping to be able to find and purchase a twin set of DVD’s called The Great Discovery. I am aware that the DVD set is a limited edition product however i was wondering if anyone could help to put me in the right direction of purchasing this item.
The DVD set was advertised in a book called Fred Dibnah- World of Steam book and would therefore be grateful for any feedback or anyone who i could contact regarding the DVD’s.
    Thank you

    • Joe says:

The full name of the DVD was “Steam Traction Engines The Great Discovery”, published in 2009 by “Paul Donoghue Publishing” which seems to be part of Rallyscene.

Rallyscene’s web site seems to have dropped off the internet but their contact details are The Pond House 59 Rotherham Road Clowne, Chesterfield, Derbyshire S43 4PT East Midlands, Peak District p: 01246 813131

Let us know how you get on.

My husband is a true Fred Dibnah fan, I was wondering if the tours are still available and if it would be possible to buy one as a christmas present, which can be used in 2011.

    Thanks

Just wanted to say what a fantastic idea this website is. Fred has left a very large gap in the preservation movement that nobody else could fill. Fred was an inspiration to me. It is from watching Fred on the TV over many years that I decided to take the plunge and rescue and restore Foden vehicles, I then started attending vintage rallies and now have a business that sells workshop tools and consumables at vintage rallies and it’s all because of the influence of the great Fred Dibnah.

During the summer months I had a stall at British Commercials Day at the Commercial Vehicle Museum in Leyland and sold lots of Freds DVD’s, many of these were purchased by people from Bolton!. Though I did keep one back for myself.
For my birthday last month I had a set of Freds DVD’s bought for me. Steam, Steel and Stone. I can highly recommend these. One particular item that caught my eye was the Lancashire Steam Boiler, range cooker fitted in the kitchen of Alan McEwen. Wow, that’s so much more impressive than my oil fired Stanley. Well done and long may it continue.
