“Its not everyone who has a coalmine in their back garden”

A documentary on Fred’s unfinished project with some of his ex-mining friends to create a replica coal mine in the back garden of his house in Bolton, digging a 70ft deep shaft, with an underground railway leading from the bottom out to the side of a valley with the aim being to demonstrate the basic working of an early colliery.

To complete the task he travels the length of the country visiting old coal mines and museums to collect the relevant equipment.
