It took the death of dear old Fred, for me to realise what a national institution the old boy was. The sort of chap we would of liked for our Grandad, or to sit and chat over a pint with. Alas he is gone, and Britain is less for his passing. Luckily his deeds are immortalised on film, so we can watch this character at work and play. I wish i could of met him. His talent was that we all felt we sort of knew him, and this affability comes over in these films of him. Rest easy, in that engine shed in the sky my friend. We will remember you.
